This is a TESTIMONIAL from a satisfied customer.
We recently returned from our latest diving trip in Curacao. While there for 2 weeks and lots of good diving, we had a couple of incidents that you can use as unsolicited testimonials for the DiveChimes.
On 11/30/00 while diving the House Reef at Habitat Curacao, we were at about 60 feet looking at the fish, coral, etc. Byron was looking for a good subject for a picture and Karen was swimming nearby.
Suddenly there was a ringing of Karen’s Dive Chime that didn’t quit sound like it normally would if she was just calling my attention to something. I looked over to see her moving up in the water away from the reef, pointing down below her and ringing her chime. I thought there is something that really scared her and then saw she was now trying to let the air out of her BC and come down but was still pointing at the bottom. I then spotted the problem, one side of her integrated weight system was laying on the reef and she only had half her weight to keep her from flying to the surface!! I quickly headed down and scooped up her weight pocket and met her as she struggled to hold her own or descend toward me. We reinstalled her weight pocket and spent a little more time on the reef before heading for the pier. We were both thankful that the DiveChime was available to get my attention and be able to assist in the situation.
Without it, I would not have noticed she was gone as she was behind and above me when the trouble began.
On 12/10/00, we began a night dive at Habitat Curacao House Reef. Following the rope out the the edge of the reef, we observed the soft coral for a current indication and started off against the very slight current at about 40-45 feet. We were part of a group of 5 that were diving together(including the Lasaters so 4 of us had Dive Chimes)and had just spread out when someone’s Dive Chime started ringing “frantically.” You can tell the difference between a quick couple of rattles to call your attention to something and a prolonged shaking that says I want your attention NOW! Sweeping our lights around, the group discovered Karen suspended above the reef with an inoperable flashlight in her hands. I moved over to her and after trying to get the light to work, we signed to the others that we were headed in and aborted the dive. Again DiveChimes to the rescue as we could have easily left Karen in the dark as we moved off and would have had a difficult time relocating her.
We and Sharon & Dennis Lasater are really impressed by these devices and we have taught a few dive masters in our travels to pay attention when someone is ringing one. Some of the dive masters jerk around even if the Chime falls out of a pocket and rings unintentionally.
We have also gotten into the habit of carrying the Dive Chimes with us when we’re snorkeling also. It’s easier to get your buddy’s attention with a short ring than it is to wait until you are both on the surface with your ears clear.
Hope you all had a good Holiday and that the New Year brings peace and joy.
Karen and Byron
